THE Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) has announced that Bolton Bridge 1 will be temporarily closed from April 4 to May 18, 2025, for repairs and rehabilitation.

The closure will start from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily, with the bridge reopening for traffic from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.

During this period, Bolton Bridge 2, which leads downtown, will remain passable and serve as a two-way route. However, vehicles weighing over 4,500 kg will be restricted from using Bolton Bridge 1 and are advised to take alternative routes via McArthur Highway and Bankerohan Bridge.

CTTMO planning officer lawyer Eduardo Perez, in an interview with SunStar Davao on Thursday, April 3, 2025, acknowledged that while the closure is scheduled outside peak hours, the agency expects delays in the area. He explained, “Maong amoang mga enforcers gipang deploy sa mga strategic areas dira (hat’s why our enforcers are deployed in strategic areas).”

Perez also highlighted traffic congestion along Quimpo Boulevard, from Felcris Centrale to the Land Transportation Office (LTO), despite the absence of road closures in that area. To ease congestion, a “No Left Turn” policy will be implemented around Felcris Centrale.

The temporary road closure is in line with City Ordinance No. 0722-24, passed by the 20th City Council in July 2024, and was initially scheduled for January 2025. However, due to delays in receiving necessary materials, the closure was postponed until April.

Perez asked for patience and understanding from Dabawenyos during the inconvenience caused by the closure. He said that the closure is necessary to ensure the safety of those using Bolton Bridge 1, as the bridge has suffered structural damage from a previous fire.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has allocated a budget for the repairs. RGP
