THE long-awaited reconstruction of Governor Miranda Bridge 1, which links Tagum City and the municipality of Carmen, is finally set to begin.
Tagum City Mayor Rey T. Uy visited the old bridge on July 30, 2025, and met with officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to discuss the project's implementation.
The DPWH confirmed that the bridge will be rebuilt in phases, with support from the office of Congressman Oyo Uy.
Uy welcomed the development, saying the bridge’s rehabilitation will help ease traffic in the city and improve access for residents and commuters.
“Mapasalamaton kita sa National Government, pinaagi sa DPWH, sa pagtubag sa atong panawagan arun mailisan na ang naguba nga tulay. Dakong tabang kini arun mas paspas na nga makabyahe ang katawhan diri sa atong syudad sa Tagum ug mga silingan nga lugar (We are grateful to the National Government, through the DPWH, for responding to our call to replace the damaged bridge. This will greatly help ensure faster travel for the people in our city of Tagum and neighboring areas),",” the City Government of Tagum posted on Facebook.
Uy also expressed hope that residents will soon be able to use the Miranda Bridge 1 again and that more infrastructure projects will follow to support the city’s growth.
The Miranda Bridge 1 was closed in 2022 due to structural damage. Since then, motorists have relied on the Miranda Bridge 2 as an alternate route between Tagum and Carmen. RGP
