WITH barely days before the end of the scheduled business permit renewal, about 34,000 have yet to complete their applications.

This was based on the data obtained from the Business Bureau as of January 29.

The Business Bureau was also able to issue about 14,000 permits in the same period.

The City Treasurer's Office (CTO) urged business owners to complete their business permit renewal applications to avoid additional payments.

"Considering that our business permit renewal is up to January 31, they have to renew their business permit and pay their corresponding tax obligation.

Otherwise, maimpose na ang mga surcharges ani (Surcharges will be imposed)," CTO head Lawrence Bantiding told SunStar Davao in an interview.

He said the surcharges, which will be effective on February 1, is 25 percent of their tax obligations and a two percent monthly increase if they fail to pay in the succeeding months.

"Let's say 1 million iyang tax obligation, so 25 percent of that, so 250,000 dayon so dako na nga madugang sa ilang bayronon so they should pay on time to avoid surcharges," he said.

If all the applications will be successful, the number would surpass the 41,000 business permits issued in 2019. (RAG)
