Agri researches to improve yield

MORE researches on local crops in Mindanao must be written and recorded into books in order to improve agricultural yield, an agricultural research officer said.

Angelina Pancho, Department of Agriculture (DA) Research and Development director on research and regulations, said researches on the agriculture sector are important in building the knowledge of the agricultural players in Mindanao.

“Dapat magsulat tayo sa kung ano ang nalalaman natin at dapat hindi ito nakakapaloob lang sa mga library natin. Dapat binibigyan rin ng pahalaga ang pagturo nito sa ibang tao lalo na sa mga magsasaka (We should write about what we know and these should not just stay in our libraries. We should also give importance into teaching these knowledge especially to our farmers),” Pancho said on Wednesday October 24, 2018 during the 2018 Stakeholder’s Technology Forum and Product Exhibit at Manambulan Tugbok, Davao City.

Pancho said the role of the research and development division of DA does not only end in collecting the results of their study but also to be able to channel it with the right stakeholders like the academe.

“Kaya mahalaga rin na nandito rin ang mga estudyante at mga guro para naman maibahagi rin namin ang mga research sa inyo (That’s why it is also important that the students and teachers are also here for us to also share our researches with you),” Pancho said.

The research officer also said the conducted studies of DA will be available for college students who are studying agriculture and can be used as a reference in their own respective undergraduate theses.

Meanwhile, two research books were launched yesterday. The books contain researches funded by Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR) ranging from the following years: 2005-2014 for the first compendium and 1987 to 2018 for the second compendium.
