THE Demoloc United Farmers Association (DUFA) in Malita, Davao Occidental is the first beneficiary in the province to receive a financial assistance amounting to P5.5 million for the implementation of a community-based swine production.

The project is under the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (Inspire) Program of the Department of Agriculture-Davao Region (DA-Davao), aimed at helping hog raisers affected by the African Swine Fever (ASF).

DA-Davao regional director Abel James I. Monteagudo bared that a total of P4.4 million has been allocated for the bio-secure housing facility for the swine, while P525,000 is for the purchase of 75 swine heads.

A total of P500,000 is allotted for the feeds and biologics of DUFA, Monteagudo added.

He hoped that Davao Occidental will continue to rise from ASF through the Inspire program.

“For the beneficiaries, I remind you to always follow the protocols to avoid the recurrence of ASF. There is no vaccine for it, so you need to be careful,” Monteagudo urged the farmer-beneficiaries.

The DA-Davao official has also raised the importance of cooperation and unity among the affected farmers and hog raisers, adding “I urge you to continue your support since this will benefit you and your livelihood.”

DUFA chair Alberto U. Baliota II expressed his gratitude to DA-Davao for providing them the financial assistance, saying “I hope for the success of Inspire here in Malita and I commit to RED Monteagudo that our project will serve as an example to other provinces,” Baliota said. PIA-Davao
