Dabawenyos opt for NFA Rice

WITH the high price of commercial rice in the market, National Food Authority (NFA) rice remains to be sought after by Dabawenyos to suffice basic food supply.

“Kon ikompara sa mga commercial nga rice nga presyo mas daghan jud tawo nga mupalit ug NFA kay barato man (If we are to compare with the prices of commercial rice, a lot of people would opt for NFA because it’s cheaper),” Jun Paco a rice vendor since 1974 said in an interview on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Agdao Public Market.

Paco added that even Dabawenyo consumers now are still choosing to buy NFA because of the quality of the rice comparable to that of the commercial ones yet not sacrificing much money for a day’s budget.

NFA rice is at P32 per kilograms (kg) at registered NFA rice stalls in the market and can be bought at P27/kg at NFA offices. NFA rice can also be bought at P98 per three kgs.

“Unya karun, dili na pud angay ikabalaka ang supply sa NFA kay available na kini sa mga stalls bisag sa lain nga palengke (Now we should not worry on the supply of NFA because this is available in rice stalls even in other markets),” Paco said.

Prices for commercial rice range at P48/kg to P75/kg. V-160 rice is at P48/kg, 7-Tonner rice at P52/kg, V-160 Grade 1 from Compostela Valley is at P55/kg, Señorita at P57/kg, Jasmin rice at P60/kg, while pure malagkit rice prices at P75/kg.

Earlier July, NFA Davao had already received 300,000 bags of rice which will be distributed in the different NFA warehouses in Davao region.

In earlier reports, NFA manager Leonila Selpa urged Dabawenyos to also report illegal NFA rice repacking by calling through NFA’s Kontra Abuso hotline: 0927-871-5921.
