A WOMAN-ENTREPENEUR from Davao City is included among the nine Filipina entrepreneurs that will be awarded the Asean Women Entrepreneur Award 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand Thursday, May 10.

From Davao City, Olive Puentespina of Malagos Food, Inc. specifically of Malagos Farmhouse Cheeses, will be the only Dabawenyo who will be given the award.

Puentespina started producing cheese under the Malagos Farmhouse brand in 2008. From 30 liters of milk production, now they make cheese from 2 to 3 tons of milk a week, all handmade and distributed to over 80 establishments in the country.

The Asean Women Entrepreneur Network (Awen) is already on its fourth year of giving awards to women entrepreneurs who have “shown exemplary practices in their businesses.”

The nine Filipina awardees have also been vetted by different bodies such as Go Negosyo, Asia CEO Awards, and Philippine Retailers Association.

“The Asean member states have established Awen to be the voice of women for policy-making in economic empowerment and social issues.

The Philippines leading women’s network called Philwen is the focal point,” read the official statement. JPA
