TO FURTHER advance scientific research and innovation, the Department of Science and Technology-Davao Region (DOST-Davao) has formalized a groundbreaking partnership with Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in Malaysia through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
The MOU signifies the close collaboration between the institutions to enhance their respective scientific, technical, and engineering competencies through a series of programs, projects, and activities.
UTP is a leading private university in Malaysia which is owned by a subsidiary of Petronas, the national oil and gas company of Malaysia. The University offers a wide range of industry-relevant engineering, science, and technology programs and conducts extensive research activities in self-sustainable building, transport infrastructure, health analytics, hydrocarbon recovery, contaminant management, and autonomous systems.
The MOU signing event, held in Malaysia, was attended by DOST-Davao Regional Director, Dr. Anthony C. Sales, Professor Mohd Shahir Liew, UTP Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, and witnessed by Ms. Kara Denise Frayco, Third Secretary and Vice Consul from the Philippine Embassy.
By tapping into the strengths and expertise of each institution, the collaboration will foster the development of innovative solutions to address regional and global challenges.
Sales emphasized the significance of the partnership citing the importance of international collaboration in providing solutions to global development issues and contributing to the scientific community by driving progress in both the Philippines and Malaysia.
“We are happy that both parties have committed to pursue joint projects that will benefit the communities that we want to serve and hopefully these outputs will benefit the rest of our country,” he added during the MOU signing.
The partnership will facilitate joint research projects, workshops, and seminars that will enhance the skills and knowledge of researchers and students and also contribute to the development of technologies and solutions that can address pressing issues.
The MOU signing between DOST-Davao and UTP Malaysia marks a significant step forward in bridging scientific communities and fostering global collaborations, ultimately contributing to the advancement of knowledge and the betterment of society. PR
