Food and wine fest kicks off on Oct 7-14

A FOOD and wine festival will kick off on October 7 to 14, which will serve as a venue to exchange best practices and strengthen business relationships among the food and beverage industry sector and its enthusiasts.

Carmina del Rosario, manager of Mindanao Butchers, emphasized that The Davao Food and Wine Festival is not just about savoring delectable dishes made from local ingredients, but is also a platform for the exchange of culinary talents, creativity, and the fostering of business relationships.

“We’re also working with cacao people, coffee people, we’re also bringing in [an appliance company]... it’s about finding a venue for them to come directly to Davao, minimizing the cost of distributors and middlemen,” del Rosario said in a press conference.

All these events and booths will be open to the public and will be hosted by multiple venues and hotels across Davao City and the Island Garden City of Samal.

Dusit Thani Davao is set to host the Grand Tasting opening event on October 7, showcasing fervent flavors of wine. The event will feature a lineup of talented local and international chefs, including David Thien, Lisa Revilla, Tippi Tambuting, Jorge Mendez, Marco Anzani, La Cabrera, Piya Suthasiri, and Joel Rodriguez.

Following this, a series of events will take place, such as the Boozy Brunch on October 8 at Park Inn by Radisson, Bar Takeover on October 9 at either Huckleberry or Bar Botanica, and The Pasta Experience on October 10 at Dusit Davao.

The event will also feature different food festivals and exhibits and a cacao and coffee forum, which will showcase chocolate making and masterclass will be set by October 11.

“I think from the point of view of the Department of Tourism (DOT), the country needs to elevate their culinary offerings and cuisines, so we are not just doing hyping up our local ingredients but also an exchange of talents, creativities, and bridging opportunities as well,” del Rosario said.

With the theme, "Indulging in Flavors, Celebrating Culture," this event will be a joint effort between the DOT and the Department of Agriculture. ICE
