LPG prices down

THE Department of Energy (DOE) Mindanao Field Office noted a decreased in the price of some liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) brands and liquid petroleum products (LPP) as of April 5, 2018.

Based on the monitoring of DOE-Mindanao, LPG dealers – Solane and Petronas - have decreased their LPG prices. The price of an 11 kilogram (kg) Solane LPG tank dropped by P15 to P771 from P786 while Petronas decresed their price by P12 to P783 from P795.

Gasul, on the other hand, increased the price of their 11kg LPG tanks by P3 to P740 from P737.

For the LPG 50kg tank, Solane increased by P13.50 to P3,789.65 from P3,776.15 and Gasul by P12.00 to P3,360 from P3,348.

Meanwhile, the three major oil companies – Caltex, Petron and Shell – have decreased prices for their liquid petroleum products (LPP). The price for Premium increased by PP0.4 per liter (L); P0.3/L for Diesel; and P0.39/L for Kerosene.

Premium is now at P48.27 from P48.67; Diesel at P43.35 from P43.65; and Kerosene at P49.37 from P49.76.

Nilo S. Geroche, DOE Mindanao Energy Industry Management Division chief, said in an interview Monday, April 16, 2018 that the changes in the prices of petroleum products are affected by the supply and demand in the international market, which is affected by conflicts like war and calamities.

“Opec (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) can also affect the change in the prices because they have the control on the supply and demand,” he added. (Kent Warren H. Fugoso and Brisbane Q. Titular, Father Saturnino Urios University interns)
