AN officer of the Department of Trade and Industry-Davao bared that the prices of basic prime commodities in the region remain stable.

Speaking at the Kapehan sa SM City, Atty. Dianne Bay Grado, Legal Officer III of the DTI-Davao revealed there may be basic prime commodities like milk which spikes but only at a minimal level due to the transportation cost that owners of businesses add to the retail prices.

“The spike can be observed only in centavo difference than the suggested retail prices, due to the transportation cost, where business owners are far from the city proper or the town center where they buy the products,” she said.

Grado favored the activation of the Price Monitoring Committee which is currently asked by the Davao City Council to see the prices of basic prime commodities.

She revealed that the Regional Price Monitoring Committee is only activated in times of disaster with the Price Act as the basis.

“Every time there is a typhoon in Davao Region, the PMC is activated. In cases, where there is no calamity, the PMC is really inactive,” Grado said.

She revealed that with the call for the PMC to be reactivated, more businesses will be monitored by the DTI in the region. PIA-Davao
