Calm, order mark Davao City polls
AUTHORITIES lauded the recent national and local elections in Davao City as peaceful and orderly, with no election-related incidents, complaints, or areas of concern reported throughout the day.
The city also recorded no new liquor ban violations during the polling period, contributing to the overall calm environment.
The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) credited the successful conduct of the elections to the cooperation of residents and barangay officials.
“Grateful ang DCPO, especially sa barangay officials. Kung wala ang kooperasyon sa katawhan, di mahimong successful ug peaceful ang election day (The DCPO is especially grateful to the barangay officials. Without the people’s cooperation, the elections wouldn’t have been as peaceful and successful),” DCPO spokesperson Police Captain Hazel Tuazon said.
Police personnel were deployed to all 266 polling centers in Davao City and will remain on duty until May 15 to ensure the safe retrieval of all election materials.
Despite former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s (FPRRD's) landslide win for Davao City mayor while detained in The Hague, authorities assured that the security situation remains stable.
“Wala ta'y any threat na nareceive sa siyudad sa Davao ilabina karon na daog atong former president Rodrigo Roa Duterte, but then naa siya sa The Hague. Atong ipaniguro gihapon sa atong mga kaigsoonang Dabawenyo na ang DCPO—ang top priority diri is ang seguridad sa tanan. (We’ve received no threats in Davao City, even after the former president’s victory. We assure our fellow Davaoeños that the safety of everyone remains DCPO’s top priority),” Tuazon said.
Meanwhile, Major Ruben Gadut, Chief of DPAO 10ID, confirmed that Task Force Davao has not identified any political threats in the city at this time.
Authorities said they will continue to closely monitor the situation in coordination with other agencies to maintain peace and order. Jessalou Algodon Silpa, UM Intern
