CEBU Pacific, the Philippines’ leading low-cost airline, marked a historic milestone in 2024 with the largest aircraft order in the country’s aviation history.
On October 3, 2024, industry leaders and distinguished guests gathered at the Marriott Hotel in Pasay City to celebrate the airline’s groundbreaking purchase agreement. The event, aptly titled “Future Skies for Every Juan,” was graced by prominent figures including Cebu Pacific Chair Lance Gokongwei, First Lady Liza Marcos, Airbus EVP for Sales of Commercial Aircraft Benoit De Saint-Exupery, Cebu Pacific CEO Michael Szucs, and Pratt & Whitney President of Commercial Engines Rick Deurloo.
Also in attendance were Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista and Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Cristina Frasco, underscoring the significance of this achievement for the country’s aviation and tourism sectors.
Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation
Cebu Pacific’s latest order centers on the Airbus A321neo, a model known for its operational efficiency, sustainability, and cutting-edge technology. CEO Michael Szucs highlighted the airline’s dedication to delivering exceptional service while reducing its environmental impact.
“The selection of the Airbus A321neo reflects our commitment to operational efficiency, sustainability, and innovation. This milestone underscores our dedication to making air travel more accessible and affordable while supporting the Philippines’ economic growth and connectivity goals,” Szucs said.
He added, “I believe in the future of air travel, and more importantly, in the future of this nation.”
Expanding Cebu Pacific’s Fleet
Cebu Pacific currently operates 61 A320 Family aircraft across its extensive regional network, along with nine A330 widebodies serving high-density routes in the region and the Middle East. With this latest purchase, the airline’s backlog with Airbus now includes 94 A320neo Family aircraft and seven A330neo units.
The Airbus A321neo, the largest member of the A320neo Family, offers unmatched range and performance. Featuring next-generation engines and Sharklets, the aircraft delivers over 20% in fuel savings and CO₂ reduction, along with a 50% noise reduction compared to previous models. Its spacious single-aisle cabin ensures maximum passenger comfort.
Global Impact
The A321neo has become a global success, with more than 6,500 units ordered by over 90 customers worldwide. This highlights the model’s appeal as a game-changer in sustainable aviation.
Szucs concluded the event with an optimistic outlook: “What we see ahead is a brighter future for everyone, filled with opportunities and potential.”
