THE Davao City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Cenro) is reminding the public to maintain cleanliness after attending prayer rallies and gatherings.

Engineer Marivic Reyes, Cenro's officer-in-charge, acknowledged that distributing items like bottled water, food, and other essentials is common at such events. However, she urged attendees to remain disciplined and dispose of their waste properly.

"Ginahangyo lang naku na kung pwede padayunon natu atong pagka disiplinado sa mga umaabot pa nga mga event sa atong siyudad (I am just asking if we can continue our discipline in the upcoming events in our city)," she said in a radio interview on GMA Super Radyo Davao.

Recently, a massive prayer rally was held at Roxas Freedom Park to celebrate the 80th birthday of former President Rodrigo Duterte, drawing thousands of supporters.

Reyes shared that around 150 street sweepers and 32 enforcers were deployed to clean the area after the event.

Despite the large crowd, she noted that the amount of waste collected was less than expected.

"Nagasunod sila sa mga gipangbawal ug mga gipang-istorya Kay syempre naa man daghan gipanghatag na mga lugaw, daghan kaayo mga tubig, daghan pod kaayo mga pack lunch, so naa man gi provide na black bag (People followed the rules and guidelines. Since a lot of porridge, bottled water, and packed lunches were distributed, black trash bags were also provided for waste disposal)," she said.

Davao City's Ecological Solid Waste Management Ordinance of 2009 requires all waste generators to sort solid waste at the source. Since June 28, 2012, the ordinance has also banned the use of non-biodegradable plastic bags and styrofoam food containers. Section 10 of the law states that only recyclable, biodegradable, or reusable containers are allowed for food and beverages. RGP
