THE 21st City Council of Davao has approved temporary road closures on major streets in preparation for the 2025 Kadayawan Festival.
The resolution, proposed by Third District Councilor Jopet Baluran, chair of the Committee on Transportation and Communication, was passed during the council session on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.
Road closure schedule:
August 12 (1 a.m.) to August 18 (1 a.m.) – Partial road closure in San Pedro Square, Bolton Street, and City Hall Drive down to San Pedro Street.
August 15 (9 p.m.) to August 17 (2 p.m.) – Partial closure at the Marco Polo Grounds, specifically from C.M. Recto corner Roxas Avenue and Bonifacio corner Pelayo Street, for the installation of stage and production tents.
August 17 (Sunday, 1 a.m. to midnight) – Full road closure for Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan, covering the route from San Pedro Square to Roxas Avenue (Marco Polo Grounds), C.M. Recto, Bonifacio, Pelayo, and back to San Pedro Street.
The ordinance also outlines the parade exit route: San Pedro Street, right to C.M. Recto, toward Bonifacio Rotunda, then right to Quimpo Boulevard and ending at Felcris Centrale.
The holding area for the grand showdown will be along San Pedro Street, with stop-and-go arrangements on intersecting roads including Crooked Road, Iñigo Street, Pelayo Street, and Illustre Street.
The road closures are meant to accommodate the festival’s two major street events—Pamulak sa Kadayawan and Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan, which are both scheduled for August 17. Pamulak, the floral float parade, will be held in the morning, followed by Indak-Indak, the cultural street dance competition, in the afternoon.
Davao City Tourism Operations Office (DCTOO) officer-in-charge Jennifer Romero earlier explained that combining both events into one day aims to create a livelier celebration while easing traffic congestion.
The Kadayawan Festival is Davao’s annual celebration of culture, heritage, and abundance. It honors the city’s 13 ethnolinguistic tribes and showcases the unity and diversity that define Davaoeño identity.
