THE Commission on Elections-Davao Region (Comelec-Davao) said it is already 80 percent ready for the upcoming 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE).
“We’re there, almost, mga 80 percent ready,” lawyer Gay Enumerables, assistant regional director of Comelec-Davao, said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw, on Monday, March 31, 2025, at SM City Davao.
Enumerables said that they still have small preparations needed. She assured that some of the machines have already been delivered, emphasizing that others are still being used for training poll workers.
She added that some machines, ballot boxes, and supplies for the NLE are already in the region.
However, despite this, Enumerables said their office is still struggling with misinformation. She pointed out instances where allegations of Comelec will cheat in the elections, such as the claims made by lawyer and accountant Jeryll Harold Respicio.
Respicio posted videos on his Facebook page, demonstrating how to manipulate the 2025 elections by hacking the machines. In response, Comelec filed a complaint against Respicio with the City Prosecutor’s Office in Manila for his alleged violation of the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
Comelec requires candidates to register their social media pages, but Enumerables said they are struggling to monitor these pages due to the large number of candidates and the Commission’s challenge in manpower. She added that today is the last day for candidates to register their official social media pages.
She said one of Comelec prohibitions is the candidates’ excessive campaigning against their political opponents on social media pages.
However, she emphasized that Comelec is doing its best to ensure that the upcoming NLE will be peaceful, credible, and honest. RGP
