THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) debunked a circulating social media post claiming that voters are required to present their National ID when they vote during the May 12, 2025 National and Local Elections (NLE).
The advisory, which stated “No National ID, No Vote,” has been confirmed as disinformation.
“This is fake news. It’s another orchestrated attempt to discredit Comelec and our electoral processes,” said the electoral agency’s spokesperson, lawyer John Rex C. Laudiangco, in a statement released earlier this week over a national media interview.
Laudiangco clarified that the graphic advising voters to bring their National ID as a mandatory requirement to exercise one’s right to suffrage did not come from the Comelec.
“Voters will only be asked to present a valid ID if their identity cannot be verified through the Election Day Computerized Voters’ List (EDCVL),” he added.
Comelec urges the public to remain vigilant and refrain from spreading unverified information, as it reminds everyone to always cross-check advisories through official Comelec channels.
“Help us stop the spread of false information. When in doubt, verify with us directly,” Comelec said in a public call for awareness.
Meanwhile, Comelec-Davao officials are closely monitoring preparations for the May 12 elections.
During a media briefing held at the Mindanao Media Hub on May 1, lawyer Gay Enumerables, assistant regional director of Comelec-Davao, assured the public that all systems are being put in place to ensure a smooth and credible electoral process in the region.
Enumerables said that election paraphernalia have been distributed to local election offices and that final testing and sealing (FTS) of vote counting machines (VCMs) are proceeding as scheduled.
She also reported active coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to maintain peace and order, particularly in identified election areas of concern. DEF
