IN PREPARATION for the upcoming 2025 national and local elections, the Commission on Elections-Davao Region (Comelec-Davao) has conducted the nationwide kick-off of the automated counting machine (ACM) on Monday, December 2, 2024.
During the event, the participants had the chance to ask questions, engage with the technology, and watch as the vote-counting process ran smoothly.
Comelec-Davao acting regional director Gay A. Enumerables and other Comelec officials presented live demonstrations of the ACM’s capabilities, showcasing its speed, accuracy, and security features.
Enumerables said that the purpose of the roadshow is to address concerns, increase confidence in the automated system, and guarantee a seamless election procedure for the next elections slated on May 25, 2025.
Previously, the official told Davao reporters that starting the third week of November, their agency will begin training all its election officers and supervisors in the country to use the new ACMs.
She added that Comelec would start delivering one machine per community to hold large-scale demonstrations on how to operate the machine in public areas.
“Starting siguro mga fourth week of November until end of January, we will be conducting ACM demo sa schools, sa malls, sa barangyas; even in the farthest barangays dadalhin natin ang machine just to demonstrate kung papano gagamitin ang bagong makina (We will bring the machine to demonstrate how to use it.),” Enumerables said.
As of December 2024, Comelec-central office recorded 68,697,596 registered voters nationwide. Comelec-Davao has 3,388,943 registered voters.
Of the said number, Davao City has 1,007,630, followed by Davao del Norte with 721,737, Davao de Oro with 551,671, and Davao del Sur with 464,812.
On the other hand, Davao Oriental has 435,188 registered voters, while Davao Occidental has the lowest at 205,737. DEF
