A TRAGIC and unexpected incident occurred on January 2, 2025, when a father’s 2-year-old daughter, Shynnieah Paraiso, caught fire and suffered second-degree burns in Monkayo, Davao de Oro.

Bryan Paraiso, the girl's father, was devastated by the sight of his daughter in such a dire condition. He explained that the family had just returned from Davao Oriental after celebrating Christmas and New Year's. They came back to Davao de Oro to tend to their farm and care for their pets.

According to Bryan, the accident happened when the cover of his motorcycle's gasoline tank detached, spilling gasoline onto Shynnieah. With the accelerator still engaged, the gasoline ignited, setting her on fire.

On January 8, 2025, Shynnieah underwent surgery, with doctors recommending the amputation of her right arm and leg to save her life.

“Gi-operahan siya gahapon [January 8] kay nalata naman gyud iyang tuo nga kamot og tiil, sugod na siyag kabaho. Ana ang doctor dili gyud daw pwede nga dili daw putlon kay mao rani ang way ma safe si baby og dili mukalat and infection (She underwent surgery yesterday [January 8] because her right arm and leg were severely damaged, and they had started to smell. The doctor said it was absolutely necessary to amputate because this was the only way to save her and prevent the spread of infection,” Bryan shared),” Bryan told SunStar Davao in an interview.

The family reached out for assistance, particularly for financial support for Shynnieah’s basic needs, including milk and diapers. The post received an overwhelming response from the community, and the funds raised have helped ease the financial burden on the family during this difficult time.

SunStar Davao and Superbalita Davao shared the family’s call for help on Facebook, which quickly gained support from netizens. As a result, ₱42,709.70 was raised and handed to Bryan and Ruby Ann Paraiso, the father and aunt of baby Shynnieah, on Thursday afternoon, January 9, 2025, at Southeastern Philippine Medical Center (SPMC).

Bryan expressed his deep gratitude for the generosity of those who supported them.

“Dako among pasalamat kay naay tao nga malumuong kasingkasing nga gihikap sa Ginoo para sa operation sakong anak. Dako kaayo ni nga tabang dili lamang sa akong anak pati na sakong pamilya. Salamat kaayo sainyo (We are so thankful for the kind-hearted people who helped fund my daughter's surgery. This support is a huge help not just for my daughter, but for our whole family. Thank you so much),” he said.

SunStar Davao and Superbalita Davao extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated to the family and helped facilitate support. Both media outlets remain committed not only to sharing compelling stories from the community but also to assisting those in need. AJA
