

THE Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-Davao) has yet to identify the suspects behind the killing of a government employee in Panabo City, Davao del Norte.
Based on the latest report of the authorities, they are looking at personal and work-related angles into the murder of a female employee of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Davao Region (BFAR) who was shot multiple times in her head while she was parking her car at an establishment last December 7, 2024.
Investigators found two distorted slugs and two empty shells from a handgun believed to be .9mm.
The victim was identified as Karen Candilosas, 42, senior aquaculturist at the BFAR National Mariculture Center in Panabo City.
According to Panabo City Police Office Chief Lt. Col. Jess Anthony Maghirang, the motive behind the crime as well as the identity of the suspect are still unknown, as a comprehensive probe into the incident continues.
Meanwhile, BFAR-Davao has committed to assisting in the prosecution of the suspects, adding that the victim had made important contributions to the fishing sector.
“This tragic loss has left an irreplaceable void in our hearts and in BFAR, as an organization. We strongly condemn the circumstances surrounding her death and stand in solidarity with her family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the agency said.
“We are committed to supporting the pursuit of justice for Ms. Karen and her family. She will always be remembered for her contributions to the fisheries sector, and the organization; as well as the positive impact she has made in the lives of her colleagues and the fisherfolk she has served,” it added.
