ACCORDING to the latest data released by the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) on Thursday, October 12, 2023, the crime index in Davao City dropped by 42 percent from January 1 to September 30, 2023, compared to the same period last year.

During this time frame, there were 213 reported cases, down from 370 cases in the same period last year.

This shows that there was a total reduction of 157 cases this year compared to last year, wherein April 2022 already had 47 percent compared to the same month this year with only 22 percent.

The Sta. Ana Police Station had a high number of cases in 2022 at 55 percent, which has now dropped to 12 percent in 2023.

The highest number of cases in the previous year was 132, which has now reduced to 71.

Furthermore, theft cases dropped from 103 last year to 43 this year in the same period.

Robbery cases also saw a decline from 58 to 33, while murder cases increased slightly from 37 to 42.

DCPO spokesperson Police Captain Hazel Tuazon attributed these positive results to the continuous vigilance of the public, who promptly provided information to the authorities.

“Bunga sab kini sa Oplan Rats Tugis sa DCPO nga gi-apilan og tokhang kon toktok ug hangyo sa mga tawo nga na-involved sa mga illegal activities nga moundang na sila, then naa pod ta’y coordination sa tanang mga barangay nga tabangan nila ang PNP pinaagi sa pag-report sa mga tawo nga na-involved sa mga illegal activities (This is the result of the constant concern of the people who immediately gave information to the authorities through Oplan Rats Tugis of DCPO, which includes tokhang or toktok and hangyo, urging those involved in illegal activities to stop. We also have coordination with all barangays to assist the PNP by reporting individuals engaged in illegal activities),” Tuazon told SuperBalita Davao.

Regarding the fight against illegal drugs in the city, DCPO also highlighted their daily successes in legitimate buy-bust operations.

She assured that the DCPO will persist in its efforts to ensure a sustained reduction in the crime rate in Davao City in the days ahead. JPC
