Dabawenyos urged to donate blood at ‘Dugong Bughaw’ drive
ATENEO de Davao University (ADDU) is urging Dabawenyos to participate in its annual blood donation campaign, “Dugong Bughaw,” on July 26 at SM City Davao.
The drive aims to bolster the city’s blood supply, which faces persistent shortages, particularly during dengue season and other medical emergencies.
Mark Paul Samante, chairperson of Ateneo de Davao University Community Engagement and Advocacy unit, noted that last year’s two bloodletting activities ― held in July and December, yielded 200 units of blood.
This July, the university has set a target of 100 donors, with a second drive planned for December.
“Common ni siya nga problem naa gyu’y shortage [of blood], dili lang ni siya every season but throughout. Mao na nga we have the dugong bughaw bloodletting from the university para naa ta’y ma-contribute nga supply sa blood,” Samante said.
(This issue is widespread; we have a blood shortage that occurs not only during one season but all year round. That’s why the university is holding a dugong bughaw bloodletting so that we can donate blood).
To maximize outreach, this year’s campaign will be hosted at SM City Davao. Prospective donors aged 18 and above may pre-register through the university’s official Facebook page. On the day of the event, they must present valid identification and confirm they had sufficient rest.
Samante said that all collected blood units would be turned over to the Philippine Red Cross for distribution to hospitals and clinics in need. PIA DAVAO
