VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Region — With a heart anchored in purpose and a pen sharpened by years of service, Janice C. Abrea of Tugbok Central Elementary School SPED Center stood tall among the nation’s finest as she was named Most Outstanding School Paper Adviser from Region XI during the 2025 National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) awarding ceremony held on May 22, 2025.

For Abrea, campus journalism is more than contests and accolades—it is a lifelong advocacy to shape socially responsible, critically thinking learners who will one day lead with integrity and compassion.

A pioneering force in the division, Abrea assisted in the establishment of the Special Program in Journalism (SPJ) at the elementary level in her station. She has also served as a mentor to fellow advisers and a coach to countless campus journalists whose stories have reached regional and national platforms.

Her dedication has not gone unnoticed.

“I extend my warmest congratulations on your well-deserved recognition as the Most Outstanding School Paper Adviser of Region XI in the NSPC 2025,” said Dr. May Ann M. Jumuad, Education Program Supervisor in the Schools Division of Davao City.

“Your dedication and expertise in nurturing young campus journalists have undoubtedly contributed to the success of your learners and mentees. Your exemplary guidance inspires us all, and we commend your significant contribution to the field of campus journalism. I look forward to witnessing your continued success in shaping future generations of skilled campus journalists and school paper advisers,” she said.

At the core of Abrea’s efforts is a deeper calling.

“I am hoping that more teachers will pour their hearts in campus journalism because it’s not only about competing and winning, but it’s about building a generation of socially involved critical thinkers who will contribute to nation building,” she shared.

Indeed, her recognition at NSPC 2025 is not just a personal milestone—it is a triumph for meaningful, purpose-driven journalism in schools. Her work reminds the nation that behind every empowered young voice is a teacher who saw potential, nurtured it, and let it soar. DEPED-DAVAO CITY
