DAVAO Region reduced its crime rate by 14.42 percent in the first half of 2025, according to the Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-Davao). The biggest contributor to this drop was a significant decrease in reported rape cases.
From January 1 to June 16, 2025, police recorded 659 cases under the region’s eight focus crimes—111 fewer than the 770 incidents during the same period in 2024. These focus crimes include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping, and motornapping.
During the Davao Peace and Security Forum at The Royal Mandaya Hotel on July 2, PRO-Davao spokesperson Major Catherine Dela Rey said the sharp drop in rape cases drove the overall decrease. Police recorded 118 fewer rape cases—a 42.60 percent decline compared to last year.
Dela Rey said sustained police visibility, community interventions, and coordination with local government units and stakeholders helped reduce criminal activity.
She added that PRO-Davao continues to expand its efforts to prevent crime and strengthen public trust. These include information drives, gender-based violence prevention campaigns, barangay patrols, and intelligence-driven operations.
Police urged the public to stay alert and report suspicious activities to law enforcement hotlines to support crime prevention efforts. DEF
