NEARLY 90 percent of Davao de Oro’s population has successfully registered for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), according to a report released by the Philippine Statistics Authority in Davao Region (PSA-11) on Friday, January 24, 2025.
Davao de Oro is making significant strides toward achieving nationwide inclusivity and enhancing government services, with 683,946 of its residents now enrolled.
The PSA-Davao hailed this progress as a testament to the province’s ongoing commitment to reaching as many residents as possible, emphasizing that registration is key to unlocking various government benefits.
However, despite the overall high registration rate, some areas remain behind, highlighting the need for more targeted efforts.
Among the 11 municipalities in Davao de Oro, Laak, Mabini, Montevista, and Nabunturan were noted for exceeding the provincial registration average. On the other hand, Monkayo, Compostela, and Pantukan reported the highest numbers of unregistered individuals, emphasizing that these areas need additional outreach and assistance to meet registration targets.
Since October 2022, PSA-Davao has been issuing paper-based national IDs to expedite the benefits of the PhilSys.
As of the latest update, 137,175 paper IDs have been distributed, accounting for 79.8 percent of the provincial target of 172,000. These IDs, which include the registrant’s PhilSys Card Number, demographic details, and a QR code for authentication, serve the same function as the physical PhilSys ID, ensuring equal validity and access to services.
Nabunturan leads the province’s municipalities with the highest number of enrollees at 21,830 IDs issued. In contrast, Mawab, Montevista, and Mabini have less than 10,000 IDs distributed each.
“The introduction of real-time paper-based National IDs has significantly enhanced service delivery,” PSA-Davao stated, noting that registrants can now receive their IDs immediately after registering, helping to streamline various government transactions.
While the success of the PhilSys in Davao de Oro is commendable, PSA-Davao is focusing its efforts on reaching the remaining unregistered populations. Targeted programs and more localized initiatives will be key in addressing disparities and ensuring that every eligible individual has access to the benefits of the national ID system. DEF
