DAVAO Eagles standout Edvil Christian Mundas, one of the key players behind Davao Region’s historic gold medal win in secondary boys basketball at the 2025 Palarong Pambansa in Ilocos Norte, has accepted a varsity scholarship offer from the Letran Knights men’s basketball team of the Colegio de San Juan de Letran..

Eagles head coach Jess Linus Evangelio confirmed this during a press conference on Tuesday at Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU).

"Nakausap ko na rin ang parents ni Mundas (I’ve also spoken with Mundas’ parents) about his decision to join Letran," the 18-year-old said.

Mundas, a mainstay of the Holy Child College of Davao (HCCD), also confirmed the news in an interview with SunStar Davao after the June 3 press event. He said he consulted Evangelio and his HCCD coaches, Roger Rabago and Nestor Sorrosa, before finalizing his decision.

"Decided na po akong mag-Letran. Ang offer nila sa akin sobrang ganda po (I’ve decided to go with Letran. The offer they gave me was really great)," said Mundas, the fourth of five siblings from Tagum City. He shared that his eldest sibling is studying in Manila through their aunt’s support, while his second sibling previously played for San Beda and Jose Rizal University and is now with Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC).

Mundas revealed that although he had received other scholarship offers in the past, none compared to those that followed his standout performance in the Eagles’ undefeated Palarong Pambansa campaign.

"Di ako makapaniwala na gipick up ako ng coaches, very supportive sila sa akin. Nung nag-start na ako ng practice winelcome nila ako (They’ve been very supportive, and when I started practicing with them, they welcomed me right away)," Mundas said

He described Davao's championship win as one of the most unforgettable moments of his life: “Sobrang memorable talaga sa akin na nag-champion kami. Di kami makapaniwala, history talaga (We really couldn’t believe it—we made history)!”

With his sights now set on Manila, Mundas promised to raise his game even higher.

"Kung ano ang mga ginawa ko at ipinakita ko dito, mas pagbubutihan ko pa rin dun sa Manila  (Whatever I showed here in Davao, I will work even harder in Manila)."

Mundas expressed gratitude to God for his guidance and protection, to his coaches and teammates from HCCD and the Davao Eagles, to the AdDU parents and community, and especially to his family for their unwavering support.

Meanwhile, Coach Evangelio also shared that another Palarong Pambansa gold medalist, Kael Delica of AdDU, is set to join the Philippine Christian University (PCU) Dolphins. MLSA
