THE Davao Light and Power Company (Davao Light) has announced a reduction in residential electricity rates for the June to July 2025 billing period, offering welcome financial relief to consumers.

Effective from June 11 to July 10, the rate has dropped by ₱0.4168 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), bringing the new rate to ₱8.6885/kWh, down from ₱9.1053/kWh in May.

According to Davao Light, the decrease is primarily due to lower power supply costs from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM), where the company sources part of its electricity needs. WESM prices fluctuate monthly based on supply and demand across the power grid, and this month’s lower rates allowed Davao Light to pass on savings to its customers.

In a Facebook post on June 13, the company explained, “The rate decrease is due to the lower power supply prices from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, where Davao Light sources part of its power requirement. Even with this lower rate, we encourage customers to continue practicing energy efficiency to keep electricity bills manageable.”

This latest adjustment follows a trend of fluctuating rates over the past months. In May 2025, the residential rate dropped to ₱9.1053/kWh from ₱9.5514/kWh in April. A more notable decrease was also seen in February 2025, when rates fell to ₱8.4027/kWh due to lower generation charges and a one-time refund ordered by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

Despite the reduction in rates, Davao Light reminded consumers that actual electricity bills still depend on usage. Increased consumption, especially during the summer months when cooling appliances are heavily used, can offset savings from the lower rate.

The company urged customers to adopt energy-saving habits such as unplugging unused appliances, using energy-efficient devices, and maximizing natural ventilation. These practices, it said, can help households manage costs while staying comfortable amid rising temperatures. RGP
