DAVAO Light and Power Company (Davao Light) has successfully provided affordable, high-quality electricity to all 182 barangays in the city, marking a major milestone in its electrification efforts. This achievement has improved urban living conditions and extended reliable power to rural areas, boosting economic growth in Davao City.

At the Business Matters media forum on March 7, 2025, Davao Light President and COO Enriczar Tia reaffirmed the company’s commitment to reaching even the most remote areas.

While all barangays now have electricity, efforts continue to energize the remaining off-grid sitios and villages.

Currently, 96 percent of these areas have been connected, with full electrification targeted soon.

“We are proud to report that in Davao City, we have completed rural electrification so all barangays are energized,” Tia said.

In May 2023, Davao Light powered 10 sitios in Barangay Malabog, Paquibato District, benefiting over 300 households, including indigenous Ata communities. This project is part of the National Sitio Electrification Program, which aims to drive economic development and reduce poverty through widespread access to electricity.

Meanwhile, the company’s underground cabling project (UCP) along R. Magsaysay Avenue is 50 percent complete.

The first phase, covering the Davao City Central Post Office to the BFAR regional office on Suazo Street, was finished earlier this year. The second phase, from BFAR to the Unity Archway at R. Magsaysay Avenue and Quezon Boulevard, is underway.

This initiative complies with City Ordinance No. 0152-17, requiring telecommunication and utility companies to replace overhead lines with underground systems to improve safety and reduce visual clutter in key areas. DEF
