OVER 800 police personnel from the Police Regional Office-Davao (PRO-Davao) tested negative in a surprise drug screening on January 2, 2025.
During the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps on January 7, PRO-Davao spokesperson Major Catherine Dela Rey shared that none of the 861 personnel tested positive for illegal drugs, highlighting the force's commitment to maintaining integrity and professionalism.
Dela Rey said that the random drug tests are part of the agency’s Internal Disciplinary Program to ensure that personnel remain responsible and competent in their duties.
The tests were conducted by the PNP Crime Laboratory following strict protocols to ensure accuracy, secrecy, and fairness. Under the leadership of PRO-Davao Regional Director Brig. Gen. Leon Victor Rosete, the surprise screenings took place across various police stations and provincial offices.
“The implementation of random drug testing further strengthens public confidence in the police force,” said Rosete. “It underscores the PNP’s commitment to self-regulation and transparency, fostering a culture of accountability among its personnel,” he said.
Meanwhile, of the 861 cops in the Davao region who tested negative for illegal drugs, 333 of these came from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO).
According to DCPO spokesperson Police Captain Hazel Tuazon, the office remains committed to its advocacy for transparency, professionalism, and integrity under the leadership of Acting City Director Police Colonel Hansel Marantan.
“The Davao City Forensic Unit administered the random drug testing without prior notice, guaranteeing that personnel vulnerable to illegal substances had no opportunity to alter the results, thereby ensuring unbiased outcomes. Any personnel found violating this policy will face both administrative and criminal sanctions,” the DCPO said. DEF, JPC
