R11 youth sepak takraw, taekwondo lead medal haul; Central Visayas dominates games in Tuguegarao

DAVAO Region (Region 11) finished in eighth place overall in the 2025 National Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) Games held in Tuguegarao City, collecting a total of 45 gold, 22 silver, and 51 bronze medals as of 2 p.m., Friday, April 11.

In the youth (high school) division, Davao tallied 28 golds, six silvers, and 34 bronzes. The region dominated sepak takraw with 16 gold medals, while Roberto Senon III of Rizal Memorial Colleges added two golds in athletics (boys’ 800m and 1500m). Table tennis contributed eight golds, with taekwondo and tennis bringing in one gold medal each.

Meanwhile, in the senior (college) division, the Davao Region secured 17 golds, 16 silvers, and 17 bronzes. The taekwondo team led the medal haul with nine golds, followed by three in sepak takraw, two each in chess and tennis, and one in swimming.

Ahbsfar Saggap of DMMA College of Southern Philippines delivered Davao's only swimming gold by winning the senior men’s 200-meter breaststroke. He clocked in at two minutes and 39.47 seconds, outpacing Ebroy Echaque of Bicol Region (2:40.83) and Eric Jacob Umali of Calabarzon (2:41.81), who settled for silver and bronze, respectively.

Other swimming medalists from DMMA included John Michael Catamco, who took home two bronze medals in the 100-meter butterfly and 100-meter freestyle, and Allen Joy Santos, who earned a bronze in the 100-meter butterfly.

Central Visayas (Region 7) dominated the weeklong sports fest, emerging as the overall champion with 183 gold, 86 silver, and 129 bronze medals, combining the senior and youth divisions.

Calabarzon (Region 4A) followed in second place with a 168-111-106 tally, while Western Visayas (Region 6) placed third with 138 golds, 293 silvers, and 157 bronzes.

Rounding out the top 10 overall performers were R12-Soccsksargen (133-108-59) fourth, R5-Bicol (95-118-156) fifth, Cordillera Administrative Region (77-59-50) sixth, Negros Island Region (56-57-82) seventh, R2-Cagayan Valley (39-38-68) ninth, and R1-Ilocos Region (22-22-30) 10th.

R9-Western Mindanao (19-42-34), R8-Eastern Visayas (12-10-15), R10-Northern Mindanao (6-21-25), 4B-Mimaropa (0-10-22), R13-Caraga (0-3-2), and Barmm (0-1-2) trailed behind. MLSA
