Davao’s Bartolo bags 21k title of Sante Barley Trilogy Run Asia-Davao Leg 2

Davao City's Elmer Bartolo from Calinan added another victory to his record by winning the men's 21K title at the Sante Barley Trilogy Run Asia-Davao Leg 2 on Sunday, May 25 in an out-and-back course from Azuela Cove, Lanang, Davao City.

Bartolo finished with a time of 1:16:05, besting Paul James Zafico (1:20:47) who placed second, and RunRio head Rio de la Cruz (1:26:56) who took third.

Last month, Bartolo also claimed the men’s 30K championship at the EastWest Dream Run held at the same venue.

"Nakaluy-an ra gyud ko sa Ginoo, Ma'am (It's just God's grace)," Bartolo told SunStar Davao. "Kondisyon lang last Sunday (I was simply in good shape last Sunday)."

He was glad to have raced alongside Coach Rio, saying, "Naglaban kami sa 21K. Sabi nya 43 na raw edad ko tapos malakas pa rin daw ako (We competed in the 21K. He told me, ‘You're already 43, but you're still strong.’)"

Last month, Bartolo also claimed the men’s 30K championship at the EastWest Dream Run held at the same venue.

In the women’s 21K, Yahchevah Daligdig of Kidapawan City secured the title with a time of 1:37:16, followed by May Angelie Mag-aso (1:39:43) and Julie Mae Jaylo (1:41:18) in second and third places, respectively.

The 10K category saw Rico Bansilan and Rachel Subere take top honors. Bansilan clocked 34:18 to win the men’s division, ahead of Arnel Barrios Jr. (36:49) and Ryan King Salinay (38:02). Subere dominated the women’s 10K with a time of 47:57, outpacing Farhana Talib (51:33) and Marica Patricia Tan (52:14).

In the 5K race, Kyle Veilchi Cayog (17:14) and Faith Marie Ocon (21:22) emerged as champions. Cayog finished ahead of Charles Dhavid Buhi (17:44) and James David Mondejar (17:57), while Ocon beat Stacey Nicole Cañeda (24:17) and Jenesa Alagase (27:10).

Around 4,500 runners joined the second leg of this year’s trilogy run, organized by RunRio Inc. in partnership with local group Kinetix Sports led by Kenneth Sai.

Finishers enjoyed free snacks and refreshments at the vibrant race village, including taho, ice cream, and burgers from Angel’s Burger. Sponsors also provided bananas, bottled water, and other freebies. MLSA
