DAVAO Tenpin Bowlers Association (Datba) standout Crystal Chavez came agonizingly close to the top spot, settling for runner-up honors after a nail-biting finish against visiting Jules Pedrahas of the USBC–Sta. Lucia East Tenpin Bowling Association (Sletba) in the mixed classified masters finals of the 17th Datba Kadayawan Open Championships at SM Lanang Bowling Center on Saturday, August 9.

Chavez, a decorated bowler and bank employee, matched Pedrahas' shot for shot, both ending the eight-game series with an identical 200 average. The title came down to a tense two-frame roll-off, where Pedrahas staged a late comeback to snatch victory, 28–26.

“Wala man gyud maigo, Ma’am, ana lang gyud (I really didn’t hit it, Ma’am, that’s just how it is),” the Dabawenya said with a rueful smile after the match, referring to the crucial spare she missed in the second frame.

Pedrahas took home the champion’s trophy and ₱50,000 cash, while Chavez pocketed ₱25,000 for her strong second-place finish.

Sugbu’s Joma Avila secured third place (₱12,000), followed by Datba’s James Young in fourth (₱6,000) and Avila again in fifth (₱3,000).

In the mixed classified singles event, Avila topped the standings, with Datba’s Chad Tancontian and Kim Salvador claiming second and third places, respectively.

Bowling legend Rafael “Paeng” Nepomuceno, Datba president Rameses Tancontian, and Philippine Bowling Federation, Inc. (PBFI) secretary-general Gina Avecilla personally awarded the prizes to the winners. MLSA
