DAVAO del Norte Vice Governor Oyo Uy expressed his dismay over a fatal shooting of a 54-year-old man aboard a public bus traveling from Tagum City to Davao City on December 28, 2024.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. in Barangay Sto. Niño, Carmen, Davao del Norte inside the Davao Metro Shuttle Bus, according to the recent investigation conducted by the authorities. Witnesses said the suspects assaulted the victim without any provocation.
Following the shooting, one of the assailants took the victim's bags, got off the bus and fled using a motorcycle that was being piloted by another person known only as "Doy.”
In his public statement, Uy said that authorities have now identified the suspects who were also passengers of the bus.
“Pinaagi sa CCTV footage sa maong bus nga gihatag na sa Davao del Norte Police, nailhan na ang mga suspek ug ongoing na pud ang manhunt operations (Through the CCTV footage of the bus that has been given to the Davao del Norte Police, the suspects have been identified and the manhunt operations are ongoing),” he stated.
“Sa katawhan sa DavNor, padayon kitang mag-igmat ug magbinantayon (To the people of DavNor, let us continue to be careful and vigilant) We highly encourage the cooperation of everyone. We sincerely condemn this heinous act and we will not stop until justice is served,” the young vice governor added.
As of press writing, authorities have already recovered a red backpack containing personal belongings at the scene. However, the motive remains unclear. While investigators continue their hot-pursuit efforts to find the suspects, forensic experts are reviewing the evidence. DEF
