A 25-YEAR-OLD construction worker from Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte, died after a tragic fall while working on the Samal Island-Davao City Connector (SIDC) project in Purok 2, Barangay Caliclic, Babak District, Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) on Wednesday morning, July 23.

The Police Regional Office-Davao Region (PRO-Davao) confirmed that the fatal incident occurred around 9:10 a.m. while the victim was working on a board pile segment of the bridge under the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).

According to initial reports from the foreman and a co-worker, the laborer lost his balance and fell into a hole at the construction site. He reportedly lost consciousness and sustained facial injuries due to the impact.

The victim was rushed to the nearest hospital in Barangay Peñaplata but was declared dead on arrival. A medical report identified the cause of death as acute respiratory failure type 1 secondary to traumatic brain injury.

The victim’s mother, a 47-year-old housewife, formally reported the incident to the Babak Police Sub-station.

Authorities from the Babak Police and PRO-Davao have launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances behind the accident, including any safety lapses or violations at the construction site.

The Samal-Davao bridge project, a major infrastructure undertaking aimed at enhancing inter-island connectivity, is currently in full swing and being closely monitored due to its scale and impact on local communities. DEF
