A POLICE officer from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) tested positive for illegal drugs during a surprise drug test on August 5, 2025, conducted as part of the agency’s internal cleansing drive and security preparations for the Kadayawan Festival.

DCPO acting city director Police Colonel Mannan C. Muarip confirmed in an interview on August 7 that the officer, a member of the Police Non-Commissioned Officer (PNCO) ranks, is currently detained at the DCPO holding facility pending investigation. He said documentation is underway following a positive result from the confirmatory test.

A total of 692 DCPO personnel underwent the unannounced testing, which underscores the leadership’s push for discipline, transparency, and accountability in the force.

The initiative is part of the Philippine National Police’s “Ligtas na Pamayanan” campaign, aimed at boosting public safety and trust while ensuring police readiness ahead of the city’s biggest cultural celebration.

DCPO spokesperson Police Captain Hazel Caballero-Tuazon said their personnel will work alongside other agencies under the Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO), which is fielding around 14,000 security personnel for the festival, down from last year’s 20,000-strong deployment during Kadayawan and Ironman 70.3.

Authorities said the leaner team will focus on efficiency and coordinated operations. DEF
