DCPO probes cop who shot dead businesswoman

THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has launched a thorough investigation into a fatal shooting incident that involved one of its personnel. 

The suspect is accused of killing a 39-year-old businesswoman along Palma Gil Street, Barangay 13-B, Davao City, late Saturday night, May 25, 2025.

According to police reports, the victim, a businesswoman and resident of Barangay Angliongto, was shot while inside a black Mitsubishi pickup. Witnesses reported hearing two gunshots and saw a man fleeing the scene.

The victim, identified only by the alias "Anna," managed to seek help and was initially brought to San Pedro Hospital before being transferred to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC), where she was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians.

Responding officers showed photographs to eyewitnesses, who positively identified the suspect as a police officer assigned to Police Station 15 – Ecoland.

The Davao City Forensic Unit recovered two fired cartridge cases and two fired bullets from the scene. These are now undergoing ballistic examination to support the ongoing investigation.

Meanwhile, a coordinated manhunt, conducted in collaboration with the Digos City Police Station, led to the voluntary surrender of the suspect on Monday morning, May 26. He was turned over to Sta. Ana Police Station, where appropriate charges are now being prepared.

In an official statement, the DCPO emphasized that all legal procedures will be followed diligently and assured the public of a transparent and impartial investigation.

DCPO also issued a reminder to all its personnel about their sworn duty to uphold the law and to act with integrity and professionalism at all times.

DCPO City Director Police Colonel Hansel Marantan instructed all unit commanders to evaluate their personnel’s mental and emotional well-being, making this a top priority moving forward.
