THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is continuing its investigation into the tragic road crash involving two commuter vans along the National Highway in Binugao, Toril District, on January 4, 2025.
The collision claimed the lives of four passengers and left two others injured. The injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC).
According to the initial findings of the Toril Police, the accident happened when one of the vans, driven by Kadaffy Salik from Kabacan, Cotabato, veered into the opposite lane after losing control.
Salik’s vehicle struck another van, which was carrying passengers returning from a beach outing in Samal, Davao del Norte.
DCPO reports suggest that Salik may have been speeding or experiencing mechanical issues, which led to the mishap.
CCTV footage of the incident, now circulating online, shows Salik’s van swerving violently into the oncoming lane before colliding with the other van, driven by Omar Lastimoso from Cotabato City.
Authorities have identified the victims as Remie Centena, Edna Centena, Mary Joy Abuda Lastimoso, and Sherlyn Altimo, who were all passengers in Lastimoso’s van.
Both drivers have been taken to the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) for proper disposition while awaiting further legal proceedings.
Charges may be filed pending the outcome of the investigation. Authorities continue to analyze evidence and have reminded motorists to prioritize road safety to prevent similar tragedies. DEF
