THE Davao City Water District (DCWD) plans to expand its services to 140 barangays.
DCWD spokesperson JC Duhaylungsod said that the utility currently serves about 117 of Davao’s 182 barangays and aims to extend its reach.
“With the bulk water and the production wells that we have right now kay daghan man ta’g tubig we are eyeing to expand to as many ma reach nato ang 140 ka barangays (With the bulk water and production wells we have, we have plenty of water to expand to as many as 140 barangays),” she said during the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps meeting on January 15, 2025, at The Royal Mandaya Hotel.
Duhaylungsod explained that DCWD is currently using 300 cubic meters of contracted bulk water daily. With a surplus of groundwater supply, the focus is on fast-tracking the construction of new pipelines to reach more areas.
She added that DCWD is prioritizing the rapid laying of new lines and is working on 14 major pipeline projects this year, along with ongoing engineering designs and procurement activities, such as securing Road Right of Way (RROW).
Since the Davao City Bulk Water Supply Project (DCBWSP) became operational last year, DCWD is making adjustments to optimize water distribution.
The utility also met its target of 15,000 service connections for 2024—double its previous goal—by August. DCWD expects an even higher number of connections in 2025, especially with the introduction of a P500 installment option for new service connections. RGP
