DEPARTMENT of Education (DepEd)-Panabo City officially kicked off Brigada Eskwela (BE) 2025 with a vibrant showcase of innovation, partnership, and community spirit, highlighted by the launch of groundbreaking literacy programs and the forging of new alliances that promise to uplift education delivery in the city for the upcoming academic year 2025-2026.

Held at San Vicente Elementary School, this year’s kickoff carried the fresh flavor of BE, emphasizing bayanihan for literacy—a timely and dynamic response to the call for holistic and inclusive education.

One of the major highlights of the event was the launching of the Nanay Reading Academy, a community-based literacy initiative that empowers mothers to become reading mentors at home, as introduced by Division Reading Focal Iryhn E. Petalcorin under the flagship balanced-reading program BASA Panabo, Panalo.

"When we capacitate our mothers, we strengthen the literacy foundations of our children right from the heart of their homes," Petalcorin emphasized.

Further showcasing the division's commitment to modernized learning assessments, Mr. Kenneth Licaros of Panabo City National High School introduced and demonstrated the digitized PHIL-IRI, an enhanced and technology-supported reading inventory system that can provide efficient, real-time data to help teachers assess and support their learners' reading development.

The kickoff also highlighted the growing network of education champions, marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with City Savings Bank (CSB) and Sta. Ana Multipurpose Cooperative (SAMULCO). Various industries, organizations, national and local government agencies, civic groups, and private sector partners likewise came in full support, bringing in-kind donations, services, and resources.

Adding warmth and inspiration, Mrs. Joann G. Cubio, a parent from San Vicente Elementary School, led the Mom’s Story Corner, captivating attendees with a heartfelt storytelling session, highlighting the indispensable role of parents in the learning journey of every child.

The kickoff was graced by key personalities, with Assistant Regional Director Rebonfamil R. Baguio, representing DepEd XI Director IV Allan G. Farnazo, delivering an inspiring message of support.

“DepEd Panabo City has once again demonstrated its premium innovations in strengthening literacy, truly reflecting the nationwide thrive of DepEd for relevant and transformative education,” Baguio remarked.

In a strong show of solidarity, 1st Councilor-elect and incoming Chairperson of the Education Committee JM Relampagos, representing Hon. Mayor Jose E. Relampagos, reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Local Government Unit of Panabo City to education and its activities.

Schools Division Superintendent Jinky B. Firman expressed her profound gratitude to DepEd XI and all stakeholders for their unwavering support and acknowledgment of Panabo City’s progressive initiatives, particularly its programs in literacy development.

“Our collective vision is anchored on transforming lives through education, and with the strong synergy of our partners, this vision continues to thrive,” Firman said.

The pledge of commitment from partners was led by Assistant SDS Basilio P. Mana-ay Jr., while Curriculum Chief Janwario E. Yamota delivered the vote of thanks, expressing deep appreciation for the collective efforts that made the event a resounding success.

The top management also expressed its deep appreciation to San Vicente Elementary School, led by Principal II Jemaima R. Dieparine, for graciously hosting the event. Special thanks were likewise extended to Brigada Eskwela Coordinator Ana Liza M. Mendoza, together with the supervisors, school heads, teachers, division personnel, and all stakeholders whose dedication and collective efforts played a vital role in the success of the activity.

With this dynamic kickoff, DepEd Panabo City once again sets the bar high in ensuring that Brigada Eskwela remains not only a preparation for the opening of classes but also a continuing movement for quality, inclusive, and transformative education. Jun Aguilon via DepEd-Davao
