DAVAO CITY — In celebration of the National ICT Month, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has ramped up its efforts to promote digital job opportunities across Davao City, empowering job seekers through a series of inclusive and impactful initiatives.
Spearheaded by DICT Region 11, a month-long lineup of activities underscored the department’s commitment to building a digitally connected and future-ready workforce.
Last Friday, June 27, DICT held its job fair to connect job seekers to employers.
During the Job Fair, Evamay Dela Rosa, regional director of DICT 11, said that in addition to the job fair, the department also conducted cybersecurity awareness orientations, held user briefings to promote digital trust and secure online transactions, and launched web accessibility training to ensure that no one gets left behind in DICTs digital journey.
To foster inclusivity, DICT 11 also extended digital literacy training to sectors including PWDs (Persons with Disabilities), senior citizens, LGBTQIA+ communities, and barangay health workers.
Dela Rosa reiterated that these initiatives contribute directly to President Bongbong Marcos Jr’s national goal of creating eight million digital jobs by 2028.
“This year’s celebration serves as a powerful reminder that digital transformation is not solely a matter of technological advancement; it is, above all, a people-centered movement. It’s about ensuring nga kada Pilipino (every Filipino), Dabawenyo, regardless of background, location, or ability, has the opportunity to be part of a connected, inclusive, and empowered digital society,” she said.
“The job fair embodied the very spirit of digital Bayanihan, uplifting lives through accessible, inclusive, and tech-enabled economic opportunities,” she added.
Fe Dacullo, a 26-year-old from Matina Pangi, expressed her appreciation for the DICT’s initiative in providing a platform through the Job Fair to help job seekers like her find employment.
She underscored how valuable the event was, especially considering the rising costs of goods and everyday essentials.
A total of 16 employers were present during the job fair, offering around 800 jobs to job seekers. PIA DAVAO
