Converge lent a helping hand to a marginalized community supported by the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) as the company recently provided digital safety training alongside a livelihood program.
On May 22, 2025, Converge visited Bamban, Tarlac, to teach 30 mothers and their children — all beneficiaries of the CDC’s Pagsasarili Program — about online safety and ways to earn additional income through its prepaid fiber internet service, Surf2Sawa.
“Our program today is dedicated to mothers in celebration of May as Mother’s Month. We want to teach them how to protect themselves online, especially with the rise of scams via text and the internet,” said Jennifer Ambanta-Realubit, Converge community relations manager.
Armin Rivera, capacity building officer II at CDC, said these mothers are particularly vulnerable to scams due to their socioeconomic status.
“Scams are rampant nowadays, whether through text or email. These often target the poor, who are especially vulnerable because they are seeking ways to support their families,” Rivera said. “We’re grateful to Converge for helping raise awareness among these mothers and teaching them to say no to dubious cash or job offers online.”
Scam Watch Pilipinas co-founder and co-lead convenor Jocel de Guzman spoke to the Pagsasarili beneficiaries about phishing scams and the risks associated with e-wallets and digital transactions. He discussed common scams such as fake job offers, fraudulent investments, loan scams, and romance scams. He also advised participants to verify identities online — especially when money or personal information is involved.
As part of the livelihood training, Jericho Mamangun of Converge MSP JK2L2 taught mothers how they could earn extra income by selling Converge’s prepaid fiber internet service.
Converge and CDC have long partnered on programs promoting cyber safety, community health, and dental missions. As a key player in the push for digitalization, Converge also supports the education of Aeta children through internet access and the provision of learning tablets. PR
