DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur —Digos City Mayor Josef Fortich Cagas recently called for a meeting of top city government officials to prepare for the impact of Monkeypox in the community.
Magsaysay town also in the same province of Davao del Sur and 25 kilometers away from Digos City recorded a single case of monkeypox.
According to Mayor Cagas, there is no recorded case yet in the city.
Monkeypox symptoms include high fever or chills, swollen lymph nodes, extreme fatigue, sore throat, muscle pain, headache, anal pain and painful urination.
Mayor Cagas called on citizens to refrain from going to work once they have symptoms like a high fever.
He also called on children to isolate themselves once they show symptoms.
An isolation and quarantine site in Barangay Igpit has been identified for residents afflicted with the illness. The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRMMO) together with the City Health Office immediately conducted an inspection and general cleaning of the planned quarantine and isolation facility.
Mayor Cagas also appealed to the mall operators to install their handwashing areas to deter the occurrences of the disease.
He sought the assistance of an Epidemiologist, medical doctor Ronald Jumillia and medical doctor Milagros Sunga, the City Health Director, to clarify certain issues regarding the disease.
He said that Digos City is strategically located in the crossroads of major road arteries that connect the province to other parts of Mindanao..
“It is the reason that we have to be prepared in the event the disease is at our doorstep,” Cagas said.
A health resolution was passed on May 26 to prepare the city once the disease is detected within its boundaries..
Cagas called on the residents to be conscious of the occurrence of the disease that is highly and virally infectious. PIA DAVAO
