IN LINE with this year’s National Kidney Month theme, “Bato ay Alagaan, Buhay ay Ipaglaban”, the Department of Health-Davao Region (DOH-Davao) held a community event on June 20 at SM City Davao to raise public awareness about kidney health and strengthen community involvement in preventing kidney disease.
The event drew over 400 attendees and was held in partnership with the Philippine Society of Nephrology and the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) Section of Nephrology.
“Today’s event brings together health professionals, community members, advocates, and stakeholders with the common purpose to raise awareness, educate the public, and empower one another in the fight against kidney disease,” said Dr. Raquel Montejo, chief of the Local Health Support Division at DOH Davao, on Friday, June 20, 2025, at SM City Davao.
Participants enjoyed a variety of activities, including free health screenings, a talent showcase, and raffle prizes.
A key segment of the event featured healthcare professionals who spoke on kidney disease prevention, recognizing early symptoms, and managing kidney conditions through proper care.
Bem Bariñan, a dialysis patient for 12 years, expressed her appreciation for the event.
“Nakapila nako nag-attend ani. Informative siya unya lingaw kay makakita ka og laing pasyente (I’ve attended this several times. It’s informative and fun because you get to see other patients too),” she shared.
PhilHealth also discussed the benefits available for dialysis patients, including the Z Benefits Package and other support programs.
The event highlighted the importance of prevention, lifestyle improvement, and access to healthcare services in the battle against kidney-related illnesses. Ashley Kate L. Panaligan, Spamast Intern
