THE Department of Science and Technology-Davao Region (DOST-Davao) Food Processing and Innovation Center-Davao (FPIC-Davao) was named as a national semi-finalist for the Civil Service Commission’s (CSC) Pagasa Award which is given to an individual or group of individuals for their outstanding contributions that directly benefit more than one department of the government.

FPIC-Davao is the first Regional Food Innovation Center established in the country and also the first Center that used the pentahelix model of collaboration involving the academe as the host organization, government agencies, industry, civil society organizations, and the media.

The Center was established as part of the High Impact Technology Solutions program of DOST which aims to design and fabricate food processing equipment prototypes to substitute importation. FPIC-Davao was among the Centers that received state-of-the-art facilities to develop high-quality products.

Housed in the Philippine Women’s College Davao, the Center has produced 48 innovative food products, assisted over 170 customers with product development, and more than six prestigious awards.

Engr. Fred Liza, Mirasol Domingo, Sheryl Napoco, and Dorothy Candilas were recognized for spearheading the effective implementation of the project throughout the country.

The Center operates as a hub for product innovation and support services for the value-adding of fresh produce and processed foods in the Davao Region to contribute to sustained regional and national economic growth. PR
