THE Department of Public Works and Highways–Davao Region (DPWH-Davao) released a statement on August 2, 2025, stating that the signage claiming delays in the construction of the Maa Flyover due to political reasons is “false and misleading.”
The office explained that the delays are primarily due to Road Right-of-Way (RROW) issues involving some remaining properties and utilities. Most of these issues have already been resolved, while a few are still pending due to the need for settlement funds.
“Currently, four properties have been tagged as urgent for acquisition and are being processed by this Office. The acquisition has been delayed due to mortgage lien issues with the land titles of the affected properties. Nevertheless, our Office continues to actively coordinate with the respective mortgagee banks to address these matters,” part of the agency’s statement read.
The agency also cited that the project has been fully funded since 2022 and all funds necessary for its completion have already been released.
It also cited that “civil works are ongoing and have reached 82.5% completion.”
Regarding utility-related concerns, DPWH-Davao said they have already notified Davao Light and Power Company (Davao Light) about the relocation of electric poles along the Monteritz side, which is scheduled for August 3. Coordination with telecommunications companies is also ongoing, and the office is awaiting their response regarding the removal and relocation of affected poles.
“We assure the public that the Maa-Magtuod Flyover Project remains a priority, and the Office continues to work toward its completion,” DPWH-Davao said.
The agency also urged the public to remain vigilant against the spread of misinformation and encouraged everyone to rely only on official sources for updates on projects implemented by their office.
To recall, DPWH-Davao spokesperson Dean Ortiz shared during a media forum on November 27, 2024, that the Maa Flyover is expected to be completed by late 2026 or early 2027. However, certain portions of the project have experienced delays due to ongoing RROW issues. RGP
