THE Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has condemned the actions of a police officer who allegedly fired his service firearm during a private christening celebration in Barangay Los Amigos, Tugbok District, on the evening of June 15, 2025.

Initial reports said the incident happened around 7:58 PM after the officer, reportedly intoxicated, got into a verbal altercation with another guest. Amid the confrontation, the officer fired his Glock 17 Gen 4 pistol into the ground, sparking panic among attendees.

The officer, a Police Staff Sergeant assigned to Police Station 10 in Calinan, was immediately subdued and arrested by fellow officers. Authorities recovered his service firearm, which contained a magazine with 10 live rounds.

"This behavior is unacceptable and a blatant violation of both the law and our operational protocols,” said Marantan. “The DCPO remains firm in upholding the highest standards of discipline, professionalism, and accountability. The safety and trust of the public remain our top priority.”

Police have filed criminal charges against the officer under Inquest Subpoena No. X1-02-INQ-25-F-1996. He also faces administrative sanctions. He has been relieved from his post, and his firearm has been confiscated pending the investigation.

The DCPO assured the public of a full, impartial probe, vowing that any officer found guilty of misconduct will be held accountable.

"We want to make it clear that no one is above the law, not even our personnel," Marantan added.

The incident comes as DCPO continues efforts to strengthen internal discipline and reinforce public trust in Davao City’s police force, known for maintaining peace and order in the region. DEF
