SOCIAL media posts circulating online claiming that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is giving a Christmas gift to those individuals who will answer their online survey questionnaire are nothing but a scam.
DSWD-Davao emphasized that the survey circulating on social media, particularly on Facebook is a form of phishing link, scamming or tricking people into sharing sensitive data.
“This Christmas season, a proliferation of ‘fake news’ and various types of scams, especially through social media platforms, is expected. These schemes often misuse the name of the DSWD, targeting innocent or vulnerable individuals with promises of cash assistance or so-called “cash gifts’,” DSWD Regional Director Vanessa Goc-ong said in an exclusive interview with SunStar Davao on December 3, 2024.
“Together with the entire DSWD Field Office 11 , we strongly encourage the public NOT TO BELIEVE these schemes. Do not engage with or click on suspicious links. Please be reminded that the DSWD does not distribute cash gifts to individuals without proper guidelines or in violation of laws issued to the department for implementation,” the official added.
DSWD-Davao also said that to ensure the accuracy of any information via social media, members should verify it through their Facebook page.
The post stated that the DSWD central office is giving a “P7,000 financial assistance as their Christmas gift”.
“Walang katotohanan ang kumakalat na link na nagsasabing makatatanggap ng CHRISTMAS GIFT na nagkakahalagang P7,000 mula sa DSWD kapalit ng pagsagot sa isang survey questionnaire (There is no truth to the link circulating online that DSWD has a CHRISTMAS GIFT worth P7,000 in exchange for answering a survey questionnaire),” the agency stressed.
