HAGONOY, Davao del Sur Municipal Mayor Jesus “Jay” Dureza is on a mission to establish his hometown not only as the leading poultry producer in Mindanao and the country but also to position Hagonoy as one of the most competitive municipalities.

Dureza said San Miguel Corporation plans to expand in the area following the successful inauguration of the world-class controlled-climate Magnolia Poultry Farm, owned by billionaire Ramon Ang.

“San Miguel Corporation has more than 60 corporations. Lilipat yan dito, and advantage po yan kase tax-free na po on importation in raw materials from electricity, water, and communication (San Miguel Corporation has over 60 corporations. If all of them choose to relocate here, it's an advantage because there will be tax exemptions on imported raw materials, including electricity, water, and communication)," Dureza said in a press conference on Thursday afternoon, October 12, 2023, in Brgy. Hagonoy Crossing.

Currently, the designated area for poultry farming in Hagonoy spans an estimated 921 hectares and few of its hectares are earmarked for the economic zone.

“We have also applied for some hectares for an economic zone. One-third of the area was applied to an agri-industrial zone and another hectare was allocated for a manufacturing zone to welcome manufacturers," he said.

Dureza also disclosed they have applied for an IT park zone, call centers, business processing outsourcing (BPO), and banks.

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) is one of the country's largest and most diverse companies. Initially established in 1890 as a brewery, SMC has expanded its scope beyond its original industry, investing in various sectors, including finance, real estate, infrastructure, oil and energy, food and beverage, and finance.
