Electricity rate increase expected during summer

THE Davao Light and Power Company (Davao Light) announced that there would be a minimal electricity rate increase this summer season as they bared some conservation tips for the coming Holy Week.

Fermin Edillon, of the reputation enhancement department of Davao Light, said that it is expected to experience a minimal increase in electricity rate per kilowatt/hour during the summer season because of the high demand from other parts of Mindanao. This high demand would cause the price of electricity from the market to also increase.

Edillon explained during a radio interview on Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) on Thursday, April 10, 2025, that there is no power supply crisis, but it is better to be prepared so that the people will be aware of and understand the sudden change in electricity rate.

Knowing most of us are staying at home this Holy Week, Edillon also gave some tips on how to conserve electricity.

He advised avoiding opening the curtains or blinds in the part of the house where it hits the sunlight because doing so would mean inviting heat to enter the house.

Instead of turning on individual air conditioners, place a single air conditioner (AC) in a room where everyone may stay and enjoy the chilly air in one location.

He also advised to wear light-colored clothing, since dark-colored clothes absorb heat. Rejahnne Ruallo, HCDC Intern
