Rising P-pop girl group KAIA will feature Davao City in the music video for their upcoming single, ‘Walkie Talkie’. By choosing Davao as the backdrop, the group aims to showcase the city's vibrant culture and attractions, marking a significant moment in highlighting its presence in the P-pop music scene.
KAIA, a five-member Filipino girl group under Sony Music Philippines and managed by Black Star Entertainment, is making waves in the P-pop scene. Composed of Angela, Charlotte, Sophia, Alexa, and Charice, the group first introduced themselves with their pre-debut single ‘KAYA’ on December 10, 2021. They officially stepped into the spotlight on April 8, 2022, with their debut single ‘BLAH BLAH,’ showcasing their unique sound and dynamic energy.
KAIA's leader, Angela Hermoso, shared that it has always been their dream to travel around the Philippines — not just to showcase its beauty but also to incorporate it into their music. She added that they aim to bring their songs and the entire P-pop scene to every corner of the country.
Angela also expressed her excitement about meeting Zaia, their fandom, in different cities and regions across the Philippines.
To give context on why Davao City is featured in their upcoming single, Angela revealed that while Ziv is of Korean descent, he was born and raised in Davao City. As their music producer and an important part of their journey, the group wanted to honor his connection to Davao by featuring its culture and scenic spots in their music video.
With Ziv as a key reason for this collaboration, KAIA also hopes to highlight Davao’s growing influence in the P-pop scene.
According to Ziv, the music producer of ‘Walkie Talkie’ KAIA's upcoming single explores the theme of one-sided love, told from the perspective of someone longing for another. He shared that he wanted to use a walkie-talkie as a metaphor to convey that feeling in a unique way. Ziv revealed that he wrote the song last year, drawing inspiration from a friend's story about unrequited love.
Ziv, who grew up in Davao and lived there for 18 years, considers the city his home.
"I’ve always wanted to promote Davao. I’m very passionate about giving back to the community that shaped me," he shared.
KAIA dedicated their upcoming song ‘Walkie Talkie’ to the Dabawenyos, with Angela expressing that the song is truly for Davao. She shared her desire to build a strong connection with their Dabawenyo fans, as she felt at home the first time they visited the city. Charlotte added that filming Walkie Talkie in Davao serves as a stepping stone for the P-pop scene to showcase and highlight the beauty of cities and destinations across the Philippines.
When asked about the song they would dedicate to their Dabawenyo fans, each KAIA member shared a heartfelt choice. Alexa chose ‘Kaya’, describing it as an inspirational song that reminds her that tomorrow is always a new day. Charlotte picked ‘Dalawa’, recalling how nostalgic it felt to perform the song in Davao, as it was the track they were promoting during their first tour in the city.
Angela, meanwhile, dedicated ‘Walkie Talkie’, as its music video was filmed in Davao, and the song itself was created here — making it a special reminder of the city every time she listens to it. Sophia chose ‘5678’, believing that everyone has their own dreams, and if she can achieve hers, so can others. Lastly, Charice chose ‘Turn Up’, saying that from the moment they arrived in Davao, the energy they felt was so different — vibrant, exciting, and truly unforgettable.
As the leader of KAIA, Angela feels overwhelmed every time they set foot in Davao and perform for their fans. The unwavering support they receive is on another level, reminding them to always practice hard and give their best — especially for their Dabawenyo fans.
“Kahit na medyo matagal na tong EP namin, ang tagal niyong naghintay, you patiently waited and super excited about our upcoming EP. Nakikita and nafi-feel namin na you really are there to support us especially to our upcoming EP,” Angela shared.
Filming began on Monday night, March 17, 2025, at SM Lanang, kicking off an exciting showcase of Davao’s beauty. Fans look forward to seeing how the city’s landmarks will bring a unique touch to KAIA’s new release.
With Walkie Talkie set to drop soon, KAIA continues to make waves in the P-pop scene, bringing not only fresh music but also a heartfelt homage to a place close to their team’s heart.
